Case Study: Norton Ad Blocker
My Role: Lead UX Designer
Project Overview:
Norton Ad Blocker is an iOS application designed to provide users with the ability to block or unblock ads on their mobile devices, enhancing browsing privacy and improving user experience. As the Lead UX Designer, I led the design process to create intuitive user flows and visually engaging mockups for this app.
Objective:
The primary goal of this project was to design a seamless and effective ad blocking experience that empowers users to control their online content consumption while maintaining a user-friendly interface.
Process:
1. Research and Analysis:
~ Conducted market research and user interviews to understand user attitudes towards online ads and preferences for ad blocking features.
~ Analyzed existing ad blocking solutions to identify usability issues and opportunities for improvement.
2. User Flow Design:
~ Developed user flow diagrams to map out the step-by-step interactions involved in enabling/disabling ad blocking, managing settings, and monitoring blocked content.
~ Incorporated user feedback and usability best practices to streamline the user journey and minimize friction points.
3. Wireframing and Prototyping:
Created low-fidelity wireframes to visualize the layout and functionality of key app screens, focusing on clarity and simplicity.
Iteratively refined wireframes based on usability testing and stakeholder feedback to optimize navigation and interaction patterns.
4. Visual Design and Mock ups:
~ Applied visual design principles to design high-fidelity mockups that reflect the Norton brand while ensuring a modern and clean aesthetic.
~ Utilized intuitive iconography, color schemes, and typography to enhance usability and reinforce ad blocking concepts.
Key Features and Considerations:

Ad Blocking Controls: Designed an intuitive interface for users to toggle ad blocking on/off and manage specific site exceptions.

Settings Customization: Integrated customizable settings for users to adjust ad blocking preferences, such as blocking specific ad types or trackers.

Feedback and Reporting: Implemented feedback mechanisms to notify users of blocked ads and provide insights into ad blocking effectiveness.
Outcome:
The collaborative design effort resulted in the successful creation of Norton Ad Blocker, delivering the following outcomes:

Empowered users to control their online ad experience with a user-friendly and customizable app interface.

Improved browsing performance and privacy by effectively blocking intrusive ads and tracking elements.

Positive user feedback and adoption rates, validating the app's usability and effectiveness.
Conclusion:
The Norton Ad Blocker UX design project exemplifies my expertise in leading the design process from research and ideation to prototyping and implementation. By focusing on user needs and iterative refinement, we created an impactful ad blocking solution that enhances user control and privacy in online browsing.
